Complementary and alternative therapies typically take a holistic approach to your physical, emotional and mental well-being. This means they consider all aspects of your well-being as a WHOLE, rather than treating your particular systems separately. Many people use these therapies alongside conventional medicine in the hope that they will help them to treat symptoms and manage health conditions and concerns. Many of these approaches have roots in the ancient Eastern philosophies of health and often go back thousands of years to way before the current era of antibiotics and the like. In recent years there has been a resurgence of their appeal being recognised in their own right - as an aid to healing and to supplement, but not replace, our traditional western medicine. They have certainly stood the test of time.
